hatcha & benga: submission 3

(taken by moi)

3rd Sub.mission party, and I've yet to be disappointed. These guys are always bringing out a hot show; Sub.mission 2 included headliners Parson and Ana Sia and was definitely one of the highlights, as far as electronic music goes, for the summer. Unfortunately i missed out on Nick Aragon this past spring, but heard high reviews.

Last night at Sub.mission3 was the Hatcha & Benga show at Benders on 12th and Grant. Hatcha and Benga are some of the key musicians in the recent DubStep movement in the UK (and the US).

Dupstep spurred from South London grime and garage sounds and dub which is a sub genre of reggae. The result; 2-step, long, wobbly bass lines. It is a melodic electronic music that creates a strange sexual tension in its dark, luscious lower bpm [beats per minute].

In Denver dubstep fans tend to be drum and bass heads and/or glitch/whomp [heavy bass line] fiends. There are also many who do not entirely connect with it, because of its heavier, slow pace some fans of electronic music become easily bored by the music, often complaining that it is "too slow." I, of course, am a huge fan, but as it is "different strokes for different folks."

shuffle1

!!SHUFFLE!!
this has become popular in the "blog world"

heres the idea: shuffle tracks on your mp3 player or whatever, when the track appears go on google.com/images (or some other image search engine) and type in the track name - post the first cool picture that comes up in the first page. sometimes you get pretty interesting results. and if your bored and dont really have anything to blog about, like myself, its a great waste of time!

somthing about you (mr oizo remix) - jamelia

i dono who this jamelia chick is, and i was really halvesy on this track when i first acquired it. but i've come to really enjoi it. mr oizo is a beat P I M P! i post a lot of him on here, but its because he's just that freq'n awesome.

song 2 - trash yourself & toxic avenger (redo)

its kind of funny that this one came up because i was thinking about posting it. i'm not a HUGE toxic avenger or trash yourself fan. they are a little too "core" for me. but this redo of the 90's blur classic "song 2" definitely touches a soft spot.

crimewaves - crystal castles vs health

crystal castles !!! if you missed this track the first time i posted it here, its a good time to redeem your worthlessness. this has definitely been appearing in all my recent mixes.
i love this picture too. its so wierd.

ghost transistor - kavinsky

edBanger record's kavinsky's tracks tend to be retrolicious as hell. he has a healthy obsession with 80s backbeats, which is cool beacause I do as well.

arrest yourself - hot chip

i don't really know how this picture correlates with "arrest yourself" at all, but whatever, pirates are freq'n awesome.
hot chip continues to be one of my favorite music groups out there, if you like postal service or james figurine at all they are definitely a band to check out.

simon says (estaw instrumental refix) - pharoah monche

this is uncanny because i was going to post this track as well. i found it on palmsOut Sounds.
i love this breakbeat redo of such a classic.
a actually did the search under "simon says estaw" because "simon says" came up with a advert posters for a lame horror movie, and i feel like this image is more representative of the tracks dark side, or maybe i am just talking out of my ass.

citronella - aesop rock

its a plant... guess i should have guessed on that one.
aesop rock is freq'n awesome. i just missed him at cerventes last night. i'm sure the show was amazing.

now wasn't that fun?

holy modeselektor

WOOOOOOOOOOOAHHHHHHHHSELEKTOR!!!!!
This album is too sick for words.
A masterpiece, as was "Hello Mom!" only in a different way. I cant believe I didn't get it until today. It debuted September 10th. I didn't really hear about it until I was checking out their website just now. The new album ranges from hip-hop, funky house, dubstep to minimal, and so much more. Its really the non-genre unclassifiable sound that makes me so attracted to Modeselektor. A collaboration of BPitch Control artists help to bring this album together. God I wish they would come to Denver! Definitely give this album a check out at the very least.

Plug in some good sound and give these tracks a listen. (Hold on to your head because it just might explode)

from "Happy Birthday!":

>Dark Side of the Sun (feat Pupputmastaz) - Modeselektor
>Suckerpin - Modeselektor

BONUS:
>Modeselektor's Rave Anthem (Ups Edit) - Ellen Allien (released in 2004)

plez beleiv.

tekno musiiiik

THE BLEEP! PARTY

A night of Denver made techno. Open bar. You have to love it. The vibes at all of the Mother Earth Sound Systems (or MESS) parties are double stuffed. Ravers sometimes never get experience electronic music gatherings like this. Step out of the 90s kids, this is where its at.

I attended the party with good friends Collin, Rachel [Mylia], and Gabe [Citrus]. Needless to say we were all quite hung over in the morning. But we let the good times roll and just went for gold with out share of free beers, margs, sunrises, and I think Collin was actually drinking whiskey from home.

Here are some pictures of the night. Hope you enjoi.
