i_mizs_u&stfu

i got everything i wanted for xmas and more! yay for consumerism! and to think i wanted to bypass the whole event; ok, i'll admit to my less-than-optimistic-outlook on coming to newhampster for my whole week off. BUT it was a really great that this year i got my fam stuff they really wanted and received like in return.

ALSO i got to see some of my old frendz that i always forget how much i miss.

ally. i love you. my heart is always 100% yours.

this track starts out all tribally but then gets all bangin' its been one of the favorites to throw in the holiday mixes. i think this sexy remix was posted on missingtoof a while ago. thnx for being so sick missingtoof, cheeeerz.

goodnight2007//openyr ♥ 2008
well.. i guess we have sparse time between now and the 2008. 07 was a good year; the sun has yet to destroy us all. it was full of bangers and hipsters and hippies and ravers and hoodies and faces; jeer and laughter.

Some highlights of the 2000007 life:
-DaftPUnk and the Chem bros
-growing electronic warehouse party scene in denver
-the rise of DUBSTEP and the SHRED
-my big 21
-amazing frendz, thats a given
-adult swim: tim and eric awesome show, athf movie

sub.Mission4 Blastoff

(photo of and by hipHopTorae)
Sub.Mission.4
The forth installation in the monthly that just gets more and more sick. This Denver dubStep premier brought out San Franciscan Djunya. He brought out a lighter but still thick and heavy dub sound that really made the small downtown Denver, Kazmos, BUMP in the night. Def check out the video and pictures on this one, and if you have not made it out to a Sub.Mish event get your ass out there and shred it up with the best!!!!! Be sure not to miss OSC (Roommate & Antiserum) plus all of your favorite Denver DubSteppin locals at Sub.mission.5!

You gotta watch this video. (Its not all dark just the first 5 seconds) Near the last 30 seconds when Djunya does the final breakdown everyone was going fucking NUTS! Its off-the-hook-dub-steppin-shreddin-it-up!!

you like free? i like free.

Free albums from Sudd! And damn good ones at that. This new trend in putting out albums at little or no cost has definitely started to catch on and I'm so happy that producers are starting to break their chains with cooperate thunder dogs like EMI.

The two new albums are compilation mixes. Tracks are separated in the ZIP files.

---SUDD MIXTAPE VOLUME 2 (DANCE EDITION) AVAILABLE HERE---

Features lots of really great euro grunge electro! Includes the sounds of the Bloody Beatroots, Lovely Chords, Lapin, lots of great noises. I am going to highly suggest listening to Guillaume Dégenétais – 200 $. Hey, it's free, what have you got to loose?

---SUDD MIXTAPE VOL 2 (8bit EDITION) AVAILABLE HERE---

If you've got any little place in your heart for 8bit this is definitely an album to check out; it's not the hardcorey gameboy-in-blender-style 8bit. I can't help it loved my game boy too much to pass this up. I'm going to highly suggest at least checkin' it out and looking at tracks like Requiem for Pluto by 8bitBetty with an open mind.

Denver Pump 1

FRESH LOCAL TRACKS
You want some freshly squeezed Denver music? Here it is baby.

>Mark Houle - Techno Vocals (Citrus trigger-finger remix)
Citrus is my good friend Gabe. He's pretty much awesome. This track was produced in ableton, and this track.. is pretty much awesome, just like Gabe. Definitely give it a listen.

>Math You VS Drew Pitcher - Math You
Math You is a great guy for sure. I'm freakin' in love with this track. Nice one, Math You. More tracks by him soon.

>JoeyM - hurd yah uh
His new house track with some neat vocal breaks; fun times. I don't know him personally, but he posts on the UNnet, so he must be cool.

>Down and DIrty - S.P.E.C.T.R.E
New track that my friend S.P.E.C.T.R.E's been working on, It's freakin sick for sure. I'm a huge fan. Down and dirty is right!

hustlin' h0t fall tracks

*FALLS HIGHLIGHTS*
The Hot Tracks that Are Rocking This FALL.

>$TUNTS - Mr.OizO (Flying Lotus Remix)
This track was originally written by the French producer Mr.OizO. S T U N T S first appeared on Flying Lotus' Myspace a couple months back and I knew I had to have it. It recently became available on Missingtoof and I grabbed it. Can't wait to buy the new EP that just came out "RESET"

>2000007 (feat TTC) - Modeselektor
This seven digit song is featured in Modelektor's new "Happy Birthday!" album. As from "Hello Mom!'s" TTC collaboration with the Berlinise duo, "Dancing Box". They bring together a sound that is all together that is seck-as-shez!

>My Love(RUF Dubstep Mix) - Justin Timberlake
I just picked this one up off of PalmsOutSounds' Remix Sunday. I hope you guys have been diggin on that DubStep as hard as I have. You definitely need to find yourself some good audio to truly appreciate, or better yet be at DJUNYA's upcoming dub-steppin' performance (posted in the previous post chronologically) at Kazmos lounge on 1381 Kalamath this Saturday (17th).

>Dear Miami - Roisin Murphy
When I first heard this track I really fell in love, despite the fact that it is much more "POP" than any of her other tracks. But this track has made a cozy little space for itself in various blogs. And I love that her voice is unique. Its a twinge electro-rock, but also simple and holds ballad qualities. I think it could easily be a movement in future pop. Artists like Amy Winehouse or Regina Spektor are honing in on the recent rage for music that doesn't suck, hopefully Roisin Murphy has a spot in that column. Definitely check out her website, there you can check out tracks from the new album "Over Powered" that has definitely taken a turn from the border-line avant garde, nu-jazzy feel of her last album "Ruby Blue," but still retains the funky charms.

>The Knife - Got 2 Let u
This track isn't new at all. Its from the Knife - "Deep Cuts" their 2006 album. But the knife is just so rad. I've been jammin' on this song lately for whatever reason. So here it is for your listening pleasures.

So there we go. Winters comin' so warm yourself by the warm wobbly bass featured in todays post. Plez enjoi. _Johnnylectric

Big ups to the Sub.Mission crew for throwin' down these parties. I will definitely be attending. If you've yet to connect with Dub Step ... you should take the time and come on down to this event. Make sure you pack your knee pads because I'm pretty sure, if it's anything like Hatcha and Benga's throwdown, you will be on your knees worshiping the Dub Step gods by the end of the night.

hatcha & benga: submission 3

(taken by moi)

3rd Sub.mission party, and I've yet to be disappointed. These guys are always bringing out a hot show; Sub.mission 2 included headliners Parson and Ana Sia and was definitely one of the highlights, as far as electronic music goes, for the summer. Unfortunately i missed out on Nick Aragon this past spring, but heard high reviews.

Last night at Sub.mission3 was the Hatcha & Benga show at Benders on 12th and Grant. Hatcha and Benga are some of the key musicians in the recent DubStep movement in the UK (and the US).

Dupstep spurred from South London grime and garage sounds and dub which is a sub genre of reggae. The result; 2-step, long, wobbly bass lines. It is a melodic electronic music that creates a strange sexual tension in its dark, luscious lower bpm [beats per minute].

In Denver dubstep fans tend to be drum and bass heads and/or glitch/whomp [heavy bass line] fiends. There are also many who do not entirely connect with it, because of its heavier, slow pace some fans of electronic music become easily bored by the music, often complaining that it is "too slow." I, of course, am a huge fan, but as it is "different strokes for different folks."

shuffle1

!!SHUFFLE!!
this has become popular in the "blog world"

heres the idea: shuffle tracks on your mp3 player or whatever, when the track appears go on google.com/images (or some other image search engine) and type in the track name - post the first cool picture that comes up in the first page. sometimes you get pretty interesting results. and if your bored and dont really have anything to blog about, like myself, its a great waste of time!

somthing about you (mr oizo remix) - jamelia

i dono who this jamelia chick is, and i was really halvesy on this track when i first acquired it. but i've come to really enjoi it. mr oizo is a beat P I M P! i post a lot of him on here, but its because he's just that freq'n awesome.

song 2 - trash yourself & toxic avenger (redo)

its kind of funny that this one came up because i was thinking about posting it. i'm not a HUGE toxic avenger or trash yourself fan. they are a little too "core" for me. but this redo of the 90's blur classic "song 2" definitely touches a soft spot.

crimewaves - crystal castles vs health

crystal castles !!! if you missed this track the first time i posted it here, its a good time to redeem your worthlessness. this has definitely been appearing in all my recent mixes.
i love this picture too. its so wierd.

ghost transistor - kavinsky

edBanger record's kavinsky's tracks tend to be retrolicious as hell. he has a healthy obsession with 80s backbeats, which is cool beacause I do as well.

arrest yourself - hot chip

i don't really know how this picture correlates with "arrest yourself" at all, but whatever, pirates are freq'n awesome.
hot chip continues to be one of my favorite music groups out there, if you like postal service or james figurine at all they are definitely a band to check out.

simon says (estaw instrumental refix) - pharoah monche

this is uncanny because i was going to post this track as well. i found it on palmsOut Sounds.
i love this breakbeat redo of such a classic.
a actually did the search under "simon says estaw" because "simon says" came up with a advert posters for a lame horror movie, and i feel like this image is more representative of the tracks dark side, or maybe i am just talking out of my ass.

citronella - aesop rock

its a plant... guess i should have guessed on that one.
aesop rock is freq'n awesome. i just missed him at cerventes last night. i'm sure the show was amazing.

now wasn't that fun?

holy modeselektor

WOOOOOOOOOOOAHHHHHHHHSELEKTOR!!!!!
This album is too sick for words.
A masterpiece, as was "Hello Mom!" only in a different way. I cant believe I didn't get it until today. It debuted September 10th. I didn't really hear about it until I was checking out their website just now. The new album ranges from hip-hop, funky house, dubstep to minimal, and so much more. Its really the non-genre unclassifiable sound that makes me so attracted to Modeselektor. A collaboration of BPitch Control artists help to bring this album together. God I wish they would come to Denver! Definitely give this album a check out at the very least.

Plug in some good sound and give these tracks a listen. (Hold on to your head because it just might explode)

from "Happy Birthday!":

>Suckerpin - Modeselektor

THE BLEEP! PARTY

A night of Denver made techno. Open bar. You have to love it. The vibes at all of the Mother Earth Sound Systems (or MESS) parties are double stuffed. Ravers sometimes never get experience electronic music gatherings like this. Step out of the 90s kids, this is where its at.

I attended the party with good friends Collin, Rachel [Mylia], and Gabe [Citrus]. Needless to say we were all quite hung over in the morning. But we let the good times roll and just went for gold with out share of free beers, margs, sunrises, and I think Collin was actually drinking whiskey from home.

Here are some pictures of the night. Hope you enjoi.

ACID HOUSE DOUBLE FEATURE!

DAFT PUNK
(robots in a pyramid who know how to make a crowd of adults cry over their TEKNNOMUSICCC!!)

Something about men in robots suits pumping loud hard acidic house beats and crazy beautiful old school techno-ballads just does it for me. Although the two artists in this double feature definitely get some points for visuals!! Both of these amazing artists use incredibly display techniques to captivate the mind. In other words; make you feel like acid. I had the luck to see Daft Punk at red rocks, I went early with friends and had front row seats to a show that will go down in Denver history. People were going NUTS!!! The vibes were intense and surreal. There was an omnipotent connection with all the people there like nothing I've ever seen at show that size.

Here are some$ pix from the RedRocks Daft Punk Concert. (That also featured French edBanger electro house legends SebAstian, Kavinsky and Busy P) [on a side note: Busy P now manages Daft Punk and the edBanger label]

CHEMICAL BROTHERS

(formally known as the "Dust Brothers" but not the ones that did the fightclub soundtrack, the ones who almost got sued for having the name.)

Ridiculously stunning show last night! I knew I wanted to see Chemical Brothers [at the Fillmore], because they are classic, but I had NO idea what I was in for! Definitely on the top three concerts list. The visuals were stunning and the music was bangin' once again amazing vibes. Through a fuselage of old sounds and modern rhythms Chem Bros were able to capitulate a very original sound. Not to mention the light show was definitely up there with Daft Punk's mind boggling pyramid.

Check this shit out.

i heard of them first with ladytron here at the denver bluebird. and then they exploded. cansei de ser sexy!!! from sao paulo come super-awesome power pop instant hit group CSS! allegedly named after beyonce knowles complaining: "tired of being sexy." they're great and sooo cute I immediately bought their self titled album, and I have to say its fabulous. Their first big release: "Lets Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" hit america like an abusive mother! and its fantastic. They've done some cool remixes with dope artists such as Spank Rock, Bonde Do Role and Diplo.

wub wub wub wub wub

oh frech electro! mmmmmm and krazy baldhead def knows how to throw down those sexy swingin' full note beats. Dry Guillotine is his new album and it is sickety sick sick sick! I first heard him on EdRec vol2 and fell in love with the track "Crazy Motherfuckers" I could not get enough of it! This new cd is like that track amplified over an album. Where as many of the tracks like "applyjuice" and "revolution" have definite dubStep influences the track the album is named after "dry Guillotine" takes a dancier note than his melodic full note tracks like "applejuice" and "revolutions" (the original track not acutally on this particular album)

In any case plz enjoi and def get this album if you do! krazybald head page face

next on the list is by the sole and skyrider band from flagstaff AZ -- some really cool hip hop over some nice instrumental breaks. they are freaken awesome. kind of up the mf doom or prefuse 73 vein. good stuff for sure.

next is a beautifully produced "IDM" track in the telefon tel aviv style --their name is even similar; telephone jim jesus.

EdIT and OOah killing it

This show was so freaking amazing. (In reference to the Jungle Labs Party 9-7) vibes so thick you coulda spread them on toast!!! there is nothing better than being inches from gods [edIT and ooah of the Glitch Mob]. special thanks to Dual Channels & S.P.E.C.T.R.E (ruben) and Reckless for bringing this talent to their warehouse; you guys fuckin rock!

pix0rz from the party

Mega props to my man Aaron Holstein [VibeSquad] - he played just before them and really really really really showed us what Colorado sound is all about. It so amazing to me the talent coming out here and coming out of here. Featuring his single Dome Piece --fresh Colorado DubStep --super tasty check it out for sure.

>VibeSquad - Dome Piece (Original Mix)

If your not familiar with EdIT and OOah. I would highly suggest familiarizing yourself. EdITs "Crying Over Pros for No Reason" and his "Battling GoGo Yubari in downTown LA" ep and all of OOah's albums are fantastic. The albums are amazing but if you see them coming through town they are def not a show you do not want to miss.

i love them way too much; its quite ridiculous. their first albums were very experimental and avant-garde while their new albums are topping charts. "Sunlandic Twins" (2005) and "Hissing Fauna Are You the Destroyer?" (2007).

The band was allegedly named after a failed relationship of the lead singer.

And they are amazing. "sunlandic twins" is one of my favorite albums of all time, and "hissing fauna" is not far off the scale.

lets start with the Hail Social track "cherry cola funk!!!!!" this track is def one of my new favs it so kitchy and fun... pretty reminiscent of the tepr sound. really breaky vocals, simple beats yum.

>Cherry-Cola Funk (Sta Mix) - Hail Social

NExt - The sick sick sick sick Feist Rmx of 1234 by Vanshe. Feist's remix album is fucking awesome i'm going to highly suggest it. I will post links for it near the bottom.

>1234 (Vanshe Technologic Rmx) - Feist

I'm trying to kinda get back in touch with my gay side here... i've been missing out a little since i've been so involved in the underground scene here in denver. In anycase if i were gonna throw down a sick track at a gay event this would totally be the one. Probably the best, if the only good [remix], remix of Whitney Houston out there. It has that super rockin electro sound we all have come to adore (from artists like MSTRKRFT, Justice and the edRec Crew) by VNDLSM (its so cute... they are like MSTRKRFT's bffs4eva they even skip the vowels just like MSTRKRFT). Plez enjoi.

gameboye synth awesome

CRYSTAL CASTLES ROCK MY ATARI IZZZOUT. I'll admit i'm not a HUGE fan of the "8-bit genre" but crystal castles is a def exception. how can I even describe their music... its... just cool and stuff... i probably like them because they are so weird.

Str8 from canadia Crystal Castles was an "accidental formation," and has become supr popular in the music blog scene. The band has recently done some collaboration with the electro band Health.

The track "Alice Practices" is actually crystal castle's first "ep" --apparently alice [the singer] didn't even know ethan [the multi-instrument master] was recording her at the time.

plez enjoi: crystal castles

>air war - crystal castles [!!!]

sci-fi freq or too many cats?

in case you didn't catch on i'm kind of a sci-fi freq.. but whatever this shit is funny as hell! this show dubs over old badly written sci-fi flicks. ignore the skits between the actual movie part the show is funny as hell but the transitions between are terrible. in any case. heres some links. plez enjoi.

Random Episodes

i've enjoyed almost every one i've seen but here are some suggestions:
go for the ones staring "mike" as the victim... those tend to be a little funnier.

ode to M.I.A.

M.I.A.
if you haven't heard of her yet: then get with it. she's the shizzz for sure. she's a brazilian pop musician; very grimy, very political, very artistic, very f*in cool. both "arular" (2005) and her new album kala (2007) are incredible albums of grimy hot beats. I just bought "kala" the other day and i am thoroughly impressed. i was a little skeptical since arular was so amazing; she created it when she met Diplo at a club in london and they definitely created something amazing.

the new album kala is only 7.99 on itunes (and even tho thats not buying it straight from her [where it costs $18 w/ shipping) and I would highly highly recommend it [!!!] the tracks on it range from 2-step garrage sounds like the track "boyz" (produced with Switch also topping the charts all over [except america, of course, where the general public doesn't really appreciate music]). While there are clear dubstep elements in "20 dollar" (which probably come from working with Switch) to sounds that bring ABBA flash backs into my mind (although M.I.A. fuckin rocks it grime style) (in "Jimmy") (made the tokyo hot 100). This album is so fucking cool; I'm so excited to have purchased it. M.I.A.'s first mixtape was known as "Piracy is Terrorism" --which I don't entirely agree with... but I will once again reiterate; you should buy her fucking albums!!! they are both totally worth it!!!!! i'm only sampling music of hers so that you will buy her fucking albums ok!
thnx love _johnnylectric
